The Sartiglia The province of Oristano, beautiful on summer, exciting during the winter. During the last Sunday and the last Tuesday of Carnival, it takes place the "Sartiglia", an equestrian tournament of medieval legacy left to us after the Catalan domination that now is famous worldwide. The head of the race is “su Componidori", which galloping through the streets of the city of Oristano, must pierce a star suspended in front of the Cathedral with his sword. 40 groups (each made of three riders, for a total of 120 riders) chosen through accurate selections, participate in the Sartiglia, and once finished this race, will make an extremely risky and breath-taking show on galloping horses. |
