San Giovanni di Sinis is a fraction of Cabras. It is located in Sardinia, in the province of Oristano, in the southern part of the Sinis Peninsula, along the road that leads to the ancient city of Tharros and further to Capo San Marco. San Giovanni di Sinis has been for long time a small fishing village. The long sandy beach stretches for about 2 km between Funtana Meiga and Tharros.
Visiting the early Christian church of San Giovanni in Sinis is highly recommended.
Capo San Marco is a cape in the southern part of the Sinis Peninsula in the north, which closes the Gulf of Oristano, Sardinia. This strip of land is oriented on the north-south axis, and ending with a cliff, where is located the Lighthouse of Capo San Marco.
The lighthouse belongs to the ‘Protected Marine Area of Sinis’, in the municipality of Cabras. This is a place of ancient settlements, known for the beauty of the landscape, as for the naturalness of small marinas and proceeds along the eastern shore, sheltered by storm surges and the mistral.
Close to the village of San Giovanni di Sinis, are situated the well-known ruins of the Phoenician city of Tharros. Continuing walking (or during the summer using a touristic small train), you pass in front of the tower and the Phoenician necropolis, and after a steep climb, after crossing an area of Mediterranean plants, you arrive to the lighthouse.
Two large beaches of fine sand and clear water among the Roman ruins welcome tourists and bathers.
